Information Networks Department Leads the Second Annual Sustainability Forum at the College of Information Technology

Under the patronage and in the presence of the President of the University of Babylon, Professor Dr. Ameen Ajeel Al-Yasseri, the Information Networks Department at the College of Information Technology took the academic lead by organizing the Second Annual Sustainability Forum. This distinguished scientific initiative reflected the department’s leadership and active role in leveraging information technology to serve sustainable development issues in Babylon Governorate.
The forum runs from 23 to 25 December, serving as a solid scientific and technological platform through which the Information Networks Department discusses the most pressing development challenges, particularly in the fields of environment, water resources, digital transformation, and smart education, with the participation of a select group of academics and representatives of governmental institutions.
The forum was organized under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Professor Dr. Wesam Sameer, with direct follow-up by the Head of the Information Networks Department, Professor Dr. Al-Harith Abdulkarim Abdullah. It aims to support the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations and to reinforce the department’s pioneering role in linking academic knowledge with societal needs.
The forum’s activities included an integrated scientific program carefully prepared by the Information Networks Department, featuring scientific seminars, workshops, and specialized lectures, in addition to the presentation of innovative student projects that reflected the advanced scientific and practical level of the department’s students and their meaningful contributions to achieving sustainability.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Deans of the College of Science and the College of Science for Women, along with several representatives of state institutions in Babylon Governorate, as well as faculty members and students of the College of Information Technology, underscoring the importance of institutional partnerships led by the Information Networks Department between the academic sector and governmental entities.
On the sidelines of the event, the University President inaugurated the technological exhibition of student projects by the Information Networks Department in the field of sustainability, praising the advanced level of the displayed projects and commending the efforts of the students and their supervisors. He emphasized that the forum represents a distinguished model of integrating science and technology in service of sustainable development goals.
The forum concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the participants by the Dean of the College, in recognition of their effective contributions to the success of this prominent scientific event, which enhanced the academic standing of the Information Networks Department both within and beyond the university.
