It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The Cybersecurity Department Hosts a Workshop on Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Cybersecurity Department at the College of Information Technology, in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Unit, organized a workshop titled "Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development." The session was presented by Assistant Lecturer Israa Saleh Kamel and Assistant Lecturer Farah Alaa Abdulhassan, with the participation of faculty members and students interested in sustainability technologies and their role in technological advancement. The workshop highlighted the crucial role of technology in achieving sustainable development, emphasizing how innovation contributes to improving quality of life, enhancing economic efficiency, and protecting the environment. Discussions focused on achieving a balance between economic, social, and environmental dimensions by leveraging modern technologies across various sectors. The session aimed to raise awareness about key areas where technology drives sustainability. Topics covered included renewable energy solutions that reduce carbon emissions, smart agriculture utilizing artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to optimize production and water consumption, and advanced water resource management through desalination and recycling technologies. Additionally, the discussion explored the impact of smart cities on public transportation and waste management, as well as the role of digital health in enabling remote healthcare services and AI-powered diagnostics and treatment. The workshop concluded by underscoring that technological innovation is essential for accelerating sustainable development goals through efficient resource utilization, minimizing environmental impact, and improving livelihoods. The speakers also emphasized the importance of investing in green technology, supporting scientific research, and fostering collaboration between different sectors to ensure a more sustainable future for future generations.
