It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Department of Information Networks Organizes a Scientific Field Trip to Aswar Academy Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Department of Information Networks at the College of Information Technology organized a scientific field trip for third-year students to one of the executive projects of Aswar Academy for Training and Development at Bdoor Baghdad Complex. The visit was led by Dr. Al-Harith Abdul Kareem Abdullah, Head of the Department, accompanied by a group of faculty members. During the visit, students explored Smart Home Automation and the latest Internet of Things (IoT) applications in residential settings. They engaged with advanced smart systems and received hands-on explanations from experts in the field, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation. In a related development, Aswar Academy expressed its willingness to offer summer training opportunities for a selected group of students. This initiative aims to equip students with essential technical skills, providing them with hands-on experience that enhances their expertise and improves their future job prospects. This initiative aligns with the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance students practical skills and strengthen partnerships with leading technology institutions, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the job market and the latest advancements in networking and smart systems.
