It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Information Technology Showcases Female Creativity at the Iraqi Women’s Festival Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of its ongoing role in supporting and empowering women in academia, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, participated in the Iraqi Women’s Festival. The event, held under the theme "Iraqi Creativity: Challenges and Successes," was organized by Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf from February 26–27, 2025. The college’s delegation included the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit, Dr. Noor Fadill Hussein, and the unit’s liaison member, Engineer Intidhar Fadill Obeid, accompanied by a group of students who presented innovative technological projects reflecting women s advancements in technology and artificial intelligence. The participating students showcased outstanding projects, including: Drowsiness Detection While Driving – by Hawraa Ahmed Koni Task Management Using Artificial Intelligence – by Baneen Hassan Madloul Smart Shopping Recommendation App for Supermarkets – by Saja Ali Faleh Ouda Personalized IT Community Recommendations on Social Media – by Ibtihaal Ali Khalif Additionally, the participation was enriched by an exhibition of valuable academic publications. Dr. Noor Fadill Hussein presented her book, "Unprecedented Peaceful Coexistence," which highlights methods for fostering peaceful interactions in society. Dr. Noor Fadill Hussein expressed her pride in the participation of the Women’s Affairs Unit, emphasizing that such events contribute to showcasing women s roles in the technological field while enhancing their opportunities for creativity and innovation. At the festival’s conclusion, the participating delegation was honored in recognition of their valuable contributions. The event organizers reaffirmed the importance of university participation in supporting and empowering Iraqi women across various academic and technological fields.
