It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Faculty Member from the College of Information Technology Chairs a Master s Thesis Defense at the University of Karbala Duhaa Fadill Abbas Professor Iman Saleh Sqban, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, chaired the defense committee for the master s thesis titled "Parkinson Disease Prediction and Progression Based on Voice Tone Analysis Using Deep Learning", presented by master s student Huda Jasim Muala at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Karbala. The defense took place in Al-Khwarizmi Hall on the morning of Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the presence of Professor Muwaffaq Kazem Al-Hasnawi, Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, along with a number of researchers and faculty members. The committee consisted of the following members: Professor Iman Saleh Sqban – University of Babylon / College of Information Technology – Chair. Assistant Professor Iyad Hamid Musa – University of Karbala / College of Computer Science and Information Technology – Member. Assistant Professor Aqeel Abdul Kareem Farhan – University of Karbala / College of Computer Science and Information Technology – Member. Professor Noor Diaa Kazem – University of Karbala / College of Computer Science and Information Technology – Member and Supervisor. The thesis focused on leveraging artificial intelligence techniques to analyze voice tone for early detection of Parkinson’s disease, contributing to improving diagnostic accuracy and supporting medical research in this field. At the conclusion of the defense, the committee commended the research efforts and emphasized the significance of employing deep learning techniques in the medical field, highlighting their potential to enhance patients quality of life. After a thorough discussion, the committee decided to award Huda Jasim Muala a master’s degree in recognition of the importance and scientific value of her research.
