It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The College of Information Technology Holds an Awareness Seminar Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the implementation of the third national action plan for women, peace, and security – focusing on participation and reform, the Women s Affairs Unit at the College of Information Technology organized an awareness seminar on cyber extortion and harassment, delivered by Dr. Safa Sa ar and Assistant Lecturer Feryal Jasem on March 14, 2025. Cyber extortion and harassment are considered among the most dangerous digital crimes affecting individuals and societies in the modern age. With the advancement of technology and the widespread use of social media, it has become easier to exploit personal information, photos, and conversations to achieve illicit gains or cause harm to others. The seminar addressed methods to combat these crimes by raising awareness of protective measures, such as using strong passwords, not sharing personal information with strangers, and avoiding interactions with suspicious entities. Additionally, it emphasized the need for governments to enforce strict laws to punish perpetrators and protect victims.
