Academic Participation of the Head of the Software Department in a PhD Dissertation Defense at the University of Kufa

Duhaa Fadill Abbas
Assistant Professor Dr. Sura Zaki Naji, Head of the Software Department at the College of Information Technology – University of Babylon, took part as a committee member in the PhD dissertation defense of Lamiaa Fahem Katran, held at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – University of Kufa. The dissertation was entitled:

"Optimal Multi-Class Classification of Brain CT Images Using Multi-Spectral Features and the Swin Transformer".

The research presented an advanced methodology for classifying brain MRI images by integrating feature extraction techniques and performance optimization using the Swin Transformer architecture. The study aimed to tackle the critical challenges of accurately detecting and classifying brain tumors by leveraging wavelet transforms and enhanced feature descriptors such as GLCM, LDP, and LTP.

Furthermore, the work incorporated advanced optimization algorithms—namely PSO, GWO, and GA—to enhance the efficiency of the proposed model. The model was evaluated using real-world data from Al-Razi Medical Center in Najaf, as well as datasets from Kaggle and GitHub, achieving high accuracy rates ranging between 92% and 99%.

The defense session was attended by a group of professors and researchers, and the examination committee commended the researcher’s efforts and her contribution to the field of intelligent medical image classification.

Dr. Sura Zaki Naji’s participation in this academic event reflects the ongoing collaboration among Iraqi universities to support scientific research and foster the exchange of expertise across specialized academic disciplines.
