In a vibrant display of intellect, challenge, and spirited competition, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon hosted its annual Chess Championship on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The event was held in the college library and witnessed wide participation from students across the scientific departments, with enthusiastic engagement from both students and faculty members.

The tournament was supervised by a distinguished academic committee composed of:

This intellectually enriching event was organized by the College’s Student Activities Unit, in collaboration with the scientific departments, and with the support of the University’s Department of Student Activities. It was held as part of the college s ongoing efforts to foster extracurricular initiatives that enhance students’ cognitive abilities beyond the academic curriculum.

The championship consisted of five intense rounds, characterized by precision, focus, and quick strategic thinking. The participants demonstrated remarkable performance, reflecting their strong passion for chess and commitment to personal and intellectual growth, all within a motivating and energetic environment.

At the conclusion of the final round, the following students emerged as the top performers:

- Hussein Muhannad – Software Department
- Zaid Kareem – Software Department
- Qaem Mohammed Jabbar – Software Department
- Obaida Saif Mohammed – Information Networks Department

The winners expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to compete, describing the tournament as an empowering experience that strengthened their strategic skills and self-confidence. They also conveyed their eagerness to take part in future competitions.
