It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The Software Department at the College of Information Technology Conducts a Joint Examination with Al-Israa University Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen academic collaboration among Iraqi universities, the Software Department at the College of Information Technology conducted a joint examination in coordination with the Department of Information Technology / College of Science / Al-Israa University. This initiative falls within the framework of scientific cooperation agreements aimed at unifying academic assessment standards across corresponding departments. The examination process was closely monitored by a joint committee composed of faculty members from both institutions, ensuring the implementation of the highest standards of academic integrity and quality. The oversight also emphasized the importance of maintaining a transparent and disciplined testing environment, in alignment with the College’s commitment to enhancing academic excellence and promoting a culture of fair and standardized evaluation. This collaboration marks a significant step toward expanding educational partnerships and fostering the exchange of academic expertise in ways that contribute meaningfully to the advancement of higher education in Iraq.
