Duhaa Fadill Abbas
The Department of Cybersecurity at the College of Information Technology organized a scientific field visit for third- and fourth-year students to the National Data Center affiliated with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. The visit was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khalfa Obeid (Head of the Department), Prof. Dr. Iman Saleh Sakban (Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies), Asst. Prof. Dr. George Iskandar Hussein, Lecturer Hassan Abdulameer Hassan, and Lecturer Ali Zuheir Kaneesh.

The visit featured a series of academic lectures designed to strengthen students’ practical knowledge and expose them to the state’s digital infrastructure. The program began with an introductory lecture on the services provided by the “Orr” e-Government Portal, presented by Mr. Mazen. He explained the operational framework of the portal, launched by the National Data Center to streamline governmental services and reduce reliance on traditional paper-based processes.

In the second lecture, Mr. Mustafa discussed the concept of "e-services" and their implementation by various governmental institutions through the Orr platform. He also elaborated on the use of performance indicators to assess the quality of services and their alignment with real-world needs.

The third lecture, delivered by Mr. Ibrahim, addressed the security dimensions of the Orr Portal and the National Data Center. He reviewed the data protection protocols, common types of cyberattacks, and effective response mechanisms used to counter such threats.

The visit also included a guided tour of the main data center facilities. During this tour, students observed the operational procedures for maintaining servers, ensuring optimal environmental conditions, and implementing backup systems in emergency scenarios. This hands-on experience offered students a comprehensive understanding of modern data center management and its resilience strategies.

This scientific visit is part of a broader initiative by the Cybersecurity Department to bridge theoretical learning with practical application, promote engagement with the job market, and enhance students’ competencies in critical areas of their specialization.
