Scientific Excellence of the Faculty of Information Technology at the International Conference at the University of Duhok Duhaa Fadill Abbas In pursuit of enhancing its academic and research standing, the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Babylon marked a distinguished presence at the "2025 International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering," hosted by the University of Duhok in the Kurdistan Region. The delegation included Professor Dr. Al-Harith Abdul-Karim Abdullah, Head of the Department of Information Networks, Dr. Suad Safaa Mahdi, a faculty member from the Department of Cybersecurity, and M.M. Shahad Ahmed Hussein, a postgraduate researcher in the Department of Information Networks. During the conference sessions, Professor Dr. Al-Harith Abdul-Karim Abdullah presented two high-quality research papers that garnered significant acclaim from the participating scholars and attendees. The first paper focused on the development of an enhanced neural network model to detect low-rate Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in Software-Defined Networks (SDNs), utilizing a newly proposed activation function named SERLU. This function, an improved version of the traditional ReLU, effectively addresses negative input values through an exponential mechanism, allowing the neural network to better learn from anomalous patterns and significantly improve attack detection accuracy, thus contributing to the robustness of digital infrastructures. The second research introduced an intelligent system for controlling patio mist-cooling and umbrella deployment based on dynamic weather conditions through deep neural network techniques. The system employs real-time environmental data, including temperature and humidity, to make autonomous decisions regarding cooling and shading operations. This approach ensures a comfortable and sustainable outdoor environment while optimizing resource consumption by activating systems only when necessary. The scientific contributions of the faculty members were widely praised for their innovation, depth, and relevance to contemporary technological challenges. This outstanding participation reaffirms the Faculty of Information Technology’s commitment to advancing scientific research, fostering academic excellence, and strengthening the University of Babylon’s reputation in international academic forums.
