It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The College of Information Technology Welcomes Ministerial Committee as Part of Establishing the Artificial Intelligence Club Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of its strategic plan to foster innovation and keep pace with emerging technologies, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon hosted a specialized ministerial committee to assess the college s readiness for launching an Artificial Intelligence Club. The committee’s visit aimed to evaluate the availability and adequacy of the college’s infrastructure, including lecture halls, scientific laboratories, and the technical and human resources essential for supporting the club’s operations. The delegation also reviewed the financial resources required to ensure the club’s sustainability and the continuity of its future academic and extracurricular activities. During the visit, the committee was received by members of the College Council and a group of faculty members, who extended their hospitality and accompanied the delegation throughout their tour. The committee visited several key facilities within the college, inspecting modern laboratory equipment and advanced teaching environments that reflect the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. The committee praised the efforts made by the college administration in preparing the grounds for this initiative and emphasized the significant role that such a club could play in nurturing student talents and enhancing skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science. Through the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Club, the College of Information Technology aspires to create a vibrant, research-driven academic atmosphere and provide students with opportunities to explore cutting-edge technologies. The club will serve as a platform for fostering innovation, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and preparing students to contribute meaningfully to the evolving digital world.
