A Scientific Seminar at the College of Information Technology Explores the Role of Digital Platforms in Reducing Suicidal Behaviors

The Department of Software Engineering at the College of Information Technology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Potential of Digital Platforms in Reducing Suicidal Behaviors.” The seminar was delivered by Dr. Mazin Kadhim Hameed, Programmer Sarah Haider Hashem, and Programmer Sinan Ali, and was attended by a group of faculty members and students from the college.

The seminar shed light on the increasingly vital role of digital platforms in raising awareness about mental health and mitigating suicidal behaviors. It emphasized how these platforms can provide immediate and confidential psychological support, educational content, online counseling services, and safe virtual communities. The discussion also highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence in detecting digital indicators of suicidal ideation, enabling timely interventions and potentially saving lives.

The primary objective of the seminar was to enhance participants’ awareness of how modern technologies can be leveraged to address psychological and social challenges. It stressed the importance of safeguarding user privacy, ensuring the reliability of the content and support provided, and preventing the misuse of digital spaces that may promote or exacerbate suicidal tendencies.
