Duhaa Fadill Abbas
On Thursday, May 15, 2025, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Software at the College of Information Technology, organized a professional training workshop titled “Constitutional Provisions on Women’s Political Rights and Mechanisms for Their Practical Implementation.” The session was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Khawla Kazem Mohammed, as part of the third national plan for Iraqi women under the pillar of participation and institutional reform.

The workshop explored constitutional articles that safeguard women s political rights, with a comparative analysis of both local and international experiences. It also addressed the practical challenges faced by women in the political sphere and proposed legal tools and strategies to overcome them.

Interactive sessions and hands-on activities were integrated to enhance participants’ understanding of how to effectively translate constitutional provisions into actionable frameworks.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Khawla Kazem emphasized that “while the constitution provides the legal foundation for women’s political participation, the real challenge lies in effective implementation, which requires legal and institutional awareness — a goal we aim to achieve through such workshops.”

The event concluded with a set of recommendations, stressing the importance of conducting more awareness programs of this nature to empower women with knowledge of their constitutional rights. The workshop was attended by both female staff members and students of the college.
