It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The College of Information Technology Conducts Interviews for Postgraduate Applicants for the Academic Year 2025–2026 Duhaa Fadill Abbas On the morning of Monday, June 30, 2025, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon conducted interviews for applicants seeking admission to postgraduate programs for the academic year 2025–2026. The interviews encompassed all three academic departments within the college: Cybersecurity, Information Networks, and Software. Specialized committees in each department commenced the interview process immediately following the competitive entrance examination. Applicants were evaluated based on rigorous academic criteria, including their educational background, research capabilities, and the relevance of their proposed research topics to their field of specialization. These interviews reflect the college’s ongoing commitment to upholding the standards of academic excellence and ensuring a fair and merit-based selection process that aligns with the institutional policies and the national framework for postgraduate studies.
