It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Prime Minister Commends Faculty Member from the Department of Information Networks Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Prime Minister of Iraq, Eng. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, has commended the efforts of Assistant Lecturer Ali Hussein Mahdi Aziz Al-Asadi, a faculty member in the Department of Information Networks at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon. This recognition comes in appreciation of his active participation in the activities of the Higher Council for Youth within the Youth Ambassadors Program. This acknowledgment reflects the government’s commitment to supporting academic and community-driven initiatives spearheaded by the Department of Information Networks. Such initiatives aim to instill a culture of volunteerism among students, recognizing it as a vital tool for strengthening social cohesion, fostering personal and professional skills, promoting mental well-being, and reinforcing values of belonging and civic responsibility. Al-Asadi has built a distinguished record of voluntary engagements, contributing to the organization of numerous central and community-based campaigns and initiatives. Among his most notable contributions is the Youth Creativity Festival, which sought to support talented individuals, provide them with a platform to showcase their work, and extend assistance to vulnerable groups within society through various humanitarian campaigns. On the academic front, Al-Asadi has presented numerous seminars and research papers at national forums, significantly enhancing the role of the College of Information Technology and the University of Babylon as active research centers.
