Faculty Member from the College of Information Technology Chairs a Master’s Thesis Defense at the University of Kufa Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the ongoing activities of the faculty members at the College of Information Technology – University of Babylon, and in line with their active role in supporting scientific research and academic knowledge exchange, Assistant Professor Dr. Nawfal Turki Abis, a faculty member in the Department of Information Networks, chaired the defense committee for the Master’s thesis of Ms. Farqan Mohammed Abbas Al-Darraji from the Department of Computer Science, College of Education, University of Kufa, entitled: “Energy Saving in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Fixed and Adaptive Extended Kalman Filters for Transmission Reduction.” The defense committee consisted of: - Assistant Professor Dr. Nawfal Turki Abis – Chair - Assistant Professor Dr. Maghreb Abdul Redha Maki – Member - Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Redha Nasif – Member - Professor Dr. Hadeel Nouri Saad – Member and Supervisor The thesis focused on the development of an intelligent system based on Fixed Extended Kalman Filter (SEKF) and Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter (AEKF) techniques using dual prediction to reduce transmission volume in wireless sensor networks and conserve energy, addressing one of the major challenges in this field. The system aims to enhance network efficiency and prolong operational lifetime by minimizing transmission redundancy, while improving the reliability of transmitted data through continuous network state prediction. Practical experiments demonstrated the system’s capability to significantly reduce transmission compared to traditional methods, while maintaining high accuracy in data prediction, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligent techniques in managing sensor networks and improving their sustainability. The scientific discussion was conducted in a thorough and comprehensive manner, with the committee examining all aspects of the thesis, including the research methodology, practical applications, and achieved results, reflecting the high standard of scientific research and the academic ambition of the student.
