It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Master’s Thesis Defense at the College of Information Technology on Securing Data in Enterprise Networks Using Hybrid Encryption Techniques Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Department of Information Networks at the College of Information Technology – University of Babylon, held the defense of a master’s thesis presented by Alaa Marzah Abdul-Hamzah, entitled: “Securing Data in Enterprise Network Communications Based on Chaotic Keys and Hybrid Lightweight Encryption Algorithms”, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Noufal Turki Abis. The defense took place at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the college. The thesis addressed the increasing challenges associated with securing data amid the growing reliance on digital communications, particularly in sensitive applications. It proposed an innovative approach that integrates dynamically generated chaotic keys with hybrid encryption systems (RC4 and PRINCE) to strengthen the security of communications between client and server. The research findings indicated that the proposed system achieved high levels of confidentiality, integrity, and randomness of transmitted data, as demonstrated by entropy values and avalanche effect results that were close to ideal standards. Moreover, the study revealed that cloud-based implementation provided superior efficiency in memory utilization and statistical distribution, while local implementation significantly outperformed in speed, reaching transfer rates of over 600,000 KB/s using RC4, along with a notable reduction in CPU consumption. Although relatively slower, the PRINCE algorithm positively contributed to improving the statistical distribution quality. The researcher emphasized that these outcomes highlight a critical practical trade-off between different computing environments: while cloud platforms ensure stronger statistical resilience and resource efficiency, local environments deliver maximum speed and higher processing efficiency.
