It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

College of Information Technology Honors Participants of the Programming Fundamentals Course in a Ceremony Attended by the Dean and the Administrative Assistant Duhaa Fadill Abbas The College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon concluded the activities of its Programming Fundamentals training course, organized by the Continuing Education Unit throughout the month of July, with an appreciation ceremony attended by the Dean of the College and the Administrative Assistant. The event celebrated the participating students and acknowledged their commitment and efforts during the course. This recognition aligns with the college’s ongoing approach to strengthening scientific and practical cooperation with state institutions and reinforcing its societal role by offering specialized training programs that equip young learners with technical skills essential for meeting the demands of the digital era and the modern job market. During the ceremony, the Dean commended the participants for their enthusiasm and active engagement, emphasizing that such training initiatives represent a vital part of the college’s mission to support students and provide them with practical competencies that enable them to enter the fields of programming and software development with confidence. The Administrative Assistant also highlighted the importance of sustaining these programs, which benefit both students and employees of governmental institutions by leveraging the academic expertise the college offers. The ceremony included the distribution of certificates of appreciation to students who successfully completed the course requirements, along with recognition of the outstanding performance displayed during the practical sessions and coding exercises held in the college laboratories.
