A Training Workshop at the College of Information Technology to Enhance Safety Skills and First Response Readiness Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Civil Defense Unit at the University of Babylon organized a specialized training workshop at the College of Information Technology titled How to Use Fire Extinguishers and Provide First Aid. The workshop comes within the university’s efforts to reinforce a culture of safety and prevention across the campus and to raise the readiness of staff and students in dealing with various emergency situations. The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, his assistants, heads of academic departments, faculty members, and a group of students. This strong presence reflects the growing institutional commitment to supporting awareness and development programs in the fields of occupational safety and emergency preparedness within educational environments. The workshop featured a set of theoretical and practical modules, including detailed explanations of response mechanisms for fires inside educational buildings, the correct methods of operating different types of handheld extinguishers, and the identification of common causes of fires with strategies for containing them in their initial stages. Participants also received hands-on training in first aid procedures aimed at managing injuries and emergency cases before the arrival of medical professionals, contributing to reducing risks and preventing further damage during critical situations. The organizers emphasized that such workshops align with the university s strategic plans to provide a safe academic environment and to prepare individuals capable of responding effectively to emergencies in accordance with international safety standards and the guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
