The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Information Technology organized, as part of the campaign to combat violence against women and under the framework of the third pillar of participation and institutional reform within the college’s national plan, an awareness seminar entitled: "Breaking the Silence: New Approaches to Confronting Violence Against Women in a Changing Society."

The seminar, held at the College of Information Technology and presented by Dr. Suad Abdul-Ilah and Dr. Noor Fadel on Monday, 24 November 2025, discussed the importance of combating violence against women in all its forms. It also highlighted the significance of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, its origins, and the reason behind its association with the color orange.

The date commemorates the brutal assassination, on the same day in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, who were active political figures in the Dominican Republic and were killed under orders of the country’s ruler (1936–1961). The choice of the color orange for the campaign is not a coincidence; it symbolizes energy, vitality, and hope for a better future free from violence. It also sends a clear message: “Violence against women and girls must end now.”

The seminar further discussed the significant negative impacts that violence against women has on both society and the family, as well as the policies and approaches adopted by the state and relevant ministries in combating violence against women.
