It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

A training workshop titled Utilizing Digital Tools to Enhance Institutional Duhaa Fadill Abbas Performance was organized by the Department of Information Networks at the College of Information Technology. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Anwar Jaafar and Lecturer Heba Ameer Jaber. It aimed to introduce participants to the importance of digital transformation in educational institutions and its role in improving performance efficiency and ensuring the quality of institutional operations. The workshop covered several key themes including the types of digital tools used to develop institutional performance practical examples from various sectors and the main challenges hindering digital transformation along with proposed solutions to overcome them. The workshop was attended by a number of students from the department who showed notable interaction with the presented topics contributing to a deeper practical understanding of digital transformation and its significance in supporting institutional development.
