College of Information Technology Launches ITCT Green Project to Enhance Green Spaces at the University of Babylon Duhaa Fadill Abbas Under the slogan “We Write the Future and Plant the Shade,” the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon launched the ITCT Green Project, implemented by the IT Coder Team in collaboration with the Voluntary Work Center – Popular Mobilization Authority. This initiative represents a practical step to promote sustainability on campus and engage students in community-oriented and environmentally conscious projects, with the direct support of Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Wesam Sameer Bhaya. The activities were carried out under the direct supervision of Head of the Software Department, Prof. Dr. Sura Zaki Naji, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Amir Al-Haq Sahib Adel, and Engineer Intidhar Fadel Ubaid, alongside the team from the Voluntary Work Center, who provided seedlings and technical support for the project. During the campaign, students were educated on proper plant care and the importance of preserving the campus environment to ensure the sustainability of these efforts. The volunteer campaign took place across the college gardens, featuring large-scale tree planting and the cultivation of various seedlings suitable for the campus environment, in addition to cleaning and rehabilitating green areas and improving surrounding pathways. A large number of students participated, working collaboratively to demonstrate the positive role of university students in serving their community and institution. The initiative received media coverage from the Iraqi Satellite Channel and the Iraqi News Channel, highlighting the college’s commitment to supporting volunteer work and implementing green projects that enhance the campus environment and encourage active student participation. The project reflects the college’s vision that technology is not limited to coding and programming, but represents awareness, responsibility, and a tangible positive impact on society. Through the ITCT Green Project, the college aims to promote a culture of volunteerism, foster a sense of belonging, and transform students’ positive ideas into sustainable initiatives within the campus. The IT Coder Team emphasized that this project is the first step in a series of forthcoming initiatives, calling on students to participate and leave a “green footprint” that represents their vision for a more beautiful and sustainable university environment.
