It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Software Department Faculty Member Publishes Research on Feature Integration in Gene Regulatory Network Analysis Duhaa Fadill Abbas In line with its commitment to advancing scientific research and supporting interdisciplinary studies in bioinformatics and information technology, Assistant Professor Dr. Sura Zaki Naji, Head of the Software Department at the College of Information Technology – University of Babylon, in collaboration with PhD student Sura Ibrahim Mohammed, has published a distinguished research paper in the proceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovation in IT (ICAIIT 2025). The paper appears in the Proceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovation in IT and is indexed in Scopus (Q3), with a CiteScore of 0.9 and an SJR of 0.294. The study, titled “Integrated Features Based on Graph Clustering and Gene Expression”, addresses a fundamental challenge in analyzing gene regulatory networks, namely the heterogeneity of available data from multiple sources. Network properties reflect the structural topology of genetic interactions, while gene expression data captures the dynamic behavior of genes. Direct integration of these data types can introduce noise or generate inaccurate associations, complicating the discovery of genuine gene interactions, particularly those that are previously unknown. The researchers proposed a multi-feature methodological framework that relies on rigorous preliminary analyses to identify statistically significant correlations and reduce irrelevant information, with the ultimate goal of improving the accuracy of discovering novel gene interactions within complex biological networks and providing deeper insights into hidden patterns. This research represents a significant contribution to the field of advanced bioinformatics data analysis and reflects the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon’s dedication to supporting rigorous scientific research and fostering innovative outputs that advance knowledge and align with global research trends.
