In a significant step supporting educational and human-centered reform, the College of Information Technology appointed Prof. Safaa Abis Mahdi, a faculty member in the Department of Cybersecurity, as an official coordinator with the Ministry of Justice and as a member of several ministerial committees jointly operated by the Ministries of Justice and Higher Education and Scientific Research, tasked with establishing university-level programs for inmates in correctional facilities, including Abu Ghraib Prison.
This appointment aligns with national efforts to expand access to higher education within prisons, contributing to inmate rehabilitation, promoting social reintegration, and transforming correctional institutions into knowledge-driven and capacity-building environments.

Prof. Safaa Abis Mahdi will oversee academic and technical coordination between the relevant ministries and participate in developing strategic and organizational plans for the implementation of these programs, ensuring their alignment with national academic standards and higher education requirements in Iraq.

The College of Information Technology emphasized that this appointment reflects confidence in national scientific expertise and its vital role in supporting reform initiatives with a human-centered focus, highlighting the importance of institutional collaboration between universities and government bodies to establish education as a fundamental pillar of sustainable reform and development.
