It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Seminar on Rationalizing Water Resource Consumption Accompanied by an Awareness Campaign within the Second Sustainability Forum at the College of Information Technology Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the activities of the Second Sustainability Forum organized by the Information Networks Department at the College of Information Technology in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit a scientific awareness seminar entitled Rationalizing Water Resource Consumption accompanied by a specialized awareness campaign was held and delivered by Dr Heba Ameer and Dr Anwar Jaafar within the framework of supporting the Sustainable Development Goals particularly the Climate goal The seminar aimed to promote environmental awareness among participants regarding the importance of conserving water resources and rationalizing their consumption while highlighting the climate-related challenges associated with water scarcity and their impact on environmental sustainability and community development with an emphasis on the role of educational institutions in fostering positive environmental behaviors The seminar addressed several key themes including the current status of water resources under climate change best practices for rational water use and the role of community awareness and guidance campaigns in reducing water waste and strengthening a culture of environmental sustainability This seminar forms part of a series of scientific and awareness activities organized by the Information Networks Department reflecting the College of Information Technology’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and enhancing climate and environmental awareness within the academic community
