It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The Cybersecurity Department Organizes a Seminar on the Iraqi National Security Strategy (2025–2030) and Strengthening the Protection of Critical Infrastructure Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Cybersecurity Department organized a specialized scientific seminar addressing the Iraqi National Security Strategy (2025–2030) delivered by Assistant Lecturer Hassan Hadi Abd under the title Strengthening Cybersecurity and Protecting Critical Infrastructure as part of efforts to support national initiatives aimed at enhancing stability and confronting contemporary security challenges The speaker explained that national security constitutes a comprehensive framework for safeguarding the state and reinforcing its stability and is not limited solely to military dimensions but rather extends to encompass economic security cybersecurity and the protection of critical infrastructure With the increasing reliance on digital systems cybersecurity has become a fundamental pillar in addressing modern threats and safeguarding sovereign information and sensitive data The seminar discussed key strategic themes focusing on strengthening national capacities in cybersecurity through the development of legislative frameworks building technical expertise enhancing coordination among governmental institutions and raising public awareness of cyber risks It also emphasized the protection of critical infrastructure sectors such as energy telecommunications banking transportation and essential services due to their direct impact on national security and state stability The seminar highlighted that this strategic orientation contributes to ensuring the continuity of governmental operations reducing cyber risks and supporting sustainable development pathways thereby enhancing Iraq’s ability to confront modern security challenges and safeguard its national interests
