It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

A Delegation from the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine Visits the Library of the College of Information Technology as Part of the Scientific Output Preservation Project Duhaa Fadill Abbas The College of Information Technology received an official delegation from the Digital Information Center affiliated with the Library of the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine. The visit aimed to digitize a number of academic theses and dissertations available at the college library by converting them from printed formats into digital versions. This initiative is implemented within the framework of the Scientific Output Preservation Project, which is directly supervised by the Digital Laboratory Department of the Digital Information Center at the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine. The visiting delegation included Mr. Karrar Malik, Director of the Digital Laboratory Department, Mr. Mohammed Al-Nasrawi, and Mr. Zaid Al-Abadi. During the visit, work mechanisms and joint coordination procedures were reviewed to facilitate the digitization process in accordance with approved academic and technical standards, thereby contributing to the preservation of scientific production and its availability to researchers in a modern electronic format. The delegation was received by the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Professor Dr. Wesam Sameer Bhaya, the Administrative Assistant Dean, Dr. Amir Al-Haq Sahib Adel, and Dr. Haider Kazem Zughair, a faculty member of the Software Department. They welcomed this important scientific initiative and emphasized the college’s support for all efforts that enhance digital transformation and serve scientific research. The staff of the college library also followed up on the delegation’s activities and provided the necessary facilities to ensure the successful completion of the digitization tasks, reflecting institutional cooperation between the College of Information Technology and the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine. It is worth noting that the Digital Information Center at the Library of the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine offers a range of free digital services to researchers and beneficiaries, including remote lending services, plagiarism percentage detection services, and digital resource donation services, in addition to providing an introductory video explaining the registration process and how to benefit from these services. This visit comes as part of the College of Information Technology’s objectives to support digital transformation, preserve scientific output, and strengthen partnerships with reputable scientific institutions, contributing to the advancement of the academic environment and the provision of a modern research infrastructure that serves the scientific community.
