It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon Advances Anti-Smoking Efforts with a Central Committee Inspection Visit Duhaa Fadill Abbas In a proactive initiative aimed at promoting health awareness and combating smoking among students and academic and administrative staff, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon recently welcomed a delegation from the Central Anti-Smoking Committee, led by Dr. Ola Noha Tariq Hussein and including Asst. Lecturer Ali Hussein Obaid. The visit was conducted to review the measures and procedures implemented at the college in compliance with the Ministry of Higher Education’s recommendations. During the visit, the delegation met with the College Dean and the Head of the University Psychological Guidance Unit, where the college provided a detailed overview of the preventive and awareness initiatives undertaken. These included the operation of informational screens to guide students, the display of educational posters, the organization of workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns, as well as designated smoking areas and accountability measures for violators, demonstrating the college’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy campus environment. The committee members expressed their appreciation for the tangible efforts and exemplary practices implemented by the college, noting that such initiatives could serve as a model for other faculties. In turn, the College Dean emphasized that adherence to health guidelines and anti-smoking measures remains a top priority, highlighting the college’s dedication to protecting the health of students and staff, and fostering a culture of health awareness across the campus. This visit is part of the College of Information Technology’s ongoing efforts to promote public health, ensure a safe and conducive academic environment, and implement best practices for smoking prevention among all college affiliates.
