It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

College of Information Technology Holds a Scientific Workshop on Academic Citations and Reference Writing in Accordance with Scholarly Standards Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of scientific research and to reinforce the foundations of rigorous academic writing, the College of Information Technology organized a scientific workshop entitled “Academic Citations and Reference Writing in Accordance with Scholarly Standards.” The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Wesam Sameer Bhaya, Dean of the College, with the aim of developing the skills of students and researchers in proper source documentation and adherence to internationally recognized academic publishing guidelines. The workshop addressed the significance of academic citation as a fundamental pillar of scholarly integrity and the protection of intellectual property. It also reviewed appropriate methods for documenting sources in accordance with established citation styles, and highlighted their role in enhancing the credibility of research outputs, facilitating acceptance in reputable journals, and meeting the requirements of graduate studies and academic promotion. The session covered key topics, including an overview of major academic referencing styles and systematic approaches to incorporating in-text citations and compiling reference lists. In addition, practical guidance was provided to assist researchers in organizing their sources and avoiding common errors in the documentation process. This workshop forms part of a series of scientific and professional development activities organized by the Software Department for graduate students and researchers, delivered by a distinguished group of specialized faculty members. These initiatives aim to strengthen research capabilities and elevate the standard of academic writing in line with international benchmarks. The workshop witnessed active attendance and engagement from graduate students and researchers, who emphasized the importance of such academic events in supporting scholarly progress, fostering a culture of rigorous research, and promoting sound academic practices within the university environment.
