It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon Participates in the Fifth International Conference on Geospatial Technologies and Smart Cities Duhaa Fadill Abbas In line with the objectives of the Department of Information Networks at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, which aim to enhance scientific research, promote openness to modern technologies, and ensure active participation in specialized scientific forums, the College participated in the activities of the Fifth International Conference on Geospatial Technologies and Smart Cities. The conference was organized by the National Security Advisory, under the patronage of the Prime Minister, and held at Al-Rasheed Hotel in the capital, Baghdad, with broad participation from governmental entities and academic institutions. The College was represented at the conference by Dr. Saba Mohammed Hussein and Dr. Alaa Shawqi Jaber. This participation underscores the College’s commitment to strengthening its academic and scientific presence, contributing to knowledge exchange, and keeping abreast of the latest developments in geospatial technologies and their advanced applications. The conference highlighted the importance of promoting awareness of geospatial technologies, exploring mechanisms for advancing and localizing their use, encouraging related scientific research and studies, and establishing effective partnerships among governmental institutions, academia, and the private sector, in support of sustainable development pathways and the advancement of smart cities. The participation of the College of Information Technology aimed to gain insight into the latest geospatial technologies and their applications in the field of smart cities, as well as to explore ways of leveraging artificial intelligence technologies to support urban planning, improve resource management, and develop intelligent services within state institutions.
