It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Awareness Lecture at the College of Information Technology Entitled “Women as Essential Partners in Peacebuilding: The Vision of Resolution 1325” Duhaa Fadill Abbas Within the framework of implementing the National Strategic Implementation Plan for Iraqi Women, and in alignment with the Prevention and Protection Pillar – Paragraph Six, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Information Technology, in cooperation with the Department of Software, organized an awareness lecture entitled “Women as Essential Partners in Peacebuilding: The Vision of Resolution 1325.” The event was held as part of the Women’s Affairs Unit objectives aimed at promoting awareness of women’s roles in sustainable development and supporting their active participation across academic and societal fields. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Khawla Kadhim Mohammed and Engineer Intithar Fadel Obaid, who highlighted the significance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and its role in reinforcing principles of women’s effective participation in peacebuilding processes and strengthening societal stability. The speakers emphasized the importance of empowering women and ensuring their involvement in decision-making positions as a key element in sustainable institutional and community development. The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the principles and objectives of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women and to enhance understanding of women’s roles as essential partners in building society, while reinforcing values of equality and positive participation within academic and professional environments. The workshop addressed several key themes focusing on the dimensions of Resolution 1325 and its implementation mechanisms, as well as the role of academic institutions in supporting women’s issues and promoting empowerment. It also presented practical examples and experiences that contribute to strengthening women’s participation in institutional reform and community development processes. The lecture witnessed positive engagement from attendees through discussions and contributions that enriched its themes, reflecting the College’s commitment to supporting awareness-oriented and scientific activities that promote social responsibility and advance women’s empowerment within the academic community.
