In alignment with the strategic vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to promote technological innovation and enhance students’ competencies in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, the Ministry has launched the National University Championship of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Applications (NURSI 2026). The championship aims to encourage students to compete and innovate across six major domains: medical, industrial, agricultural, environmental, community service, and education.
Within this framework, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon organized the first introductory workshop dedicated to the championship. The workshop addressed several key themes, including an overview of the championship objectives and timeline, the procedures and eligibility requirements for team registration, the competition mechanism and evaluation criteria, as well as the role of the university coordinator and the forms of technical and organizational support available to participating teams.
The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hadhab Khalid Abais Al-Jubouri, University of Babylon Coordinator for the championship and a faculty member in the Department of Cybersecurity. The session was attended by faculty members of the College and provided a comprehensive explanation of participation requirements and the importance of early preparation to enhance competitive performance at the national level.
This workshop represents the first in a series of planned sessions to be delivered to relevant colleges as part of a structured institutional effort to ensure effective participation in the championship. The initiative also aligns with the objectives of the Department of Cybersecurity, which seeks to foster scientific and technical activities that develop students’ practical skills and promote a culture of innovation and applied research in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
Through such initiatives, the College reaffirms its commitment to creating a stimulating academic environment that supports creativity, scientific excellence, and national-level engagement, thereby contributing to the preparation of qualified professionals capable of keeping pace with rapid technological advancements and serving the broader community and sustainable development goals.
