It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Awareness Seminar at the College of Information Technology on Artificial Intelligence: Development and User Ethics Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Security, and Peace 2025–2030, and in line with the third pillar on combating violence against women, subsection one on organizing seminars addressing negative phenomena, the Department of Software at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, organized an awareness seminar titled “Artificial Intelligence: Development and User Ethics” on Tuesday, 24/2/2026. The initiative supports academic efforts to promote the responsible and conscious use of emerging technologies. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Bayader Abbas and Ms. Iman Dakhil, who discussed the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technologies and their impact across various aspects of life. The speakers emphasized the ethical dimensions of user behavior and the responsibility of employing these technologies in ways that uphold human values and maintain societal harmony. The seminar highlighted the challenges arising from the misuse of AI applications, particularly concerning the spread of misinformation, violations of privacy, and engagement in harmful digital practices. It stressed the necessity of enhancing students’ digital awareness and enabling them to distinguish between positive and harmful uses of these tools. The seminar aimed to elevate students’ technical and ethical literacy, deepen their understanding of the implications of digital transformation, and reinforce their responsibilities as users in a rapidly evolving digital environment. It further promoted the principles of safe, disciplined, and ethical use of emerging technologies, in line with the college’s commitment to cultivating a knowledgeable and ethically responsible generation. The event witnessed active engagement from attendees through discussions and contributions that enriched the seminar content, reflecting students’ interest in contemporary issues related to technological advancement and ethical use. This participation underscores the college’s role in supporting awareness and scientific activities that build a responsible and forward-looking university environment.
