The Information Networks Department at the College of Information Technology Holds a Workshop on Mechanisms for Verifying Scientific Journals and Detecting Academic Fraud Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the series of scientific workshops organized by the University of Babylon within the framework of the Research Skills Development Program, the Information Networks Department at the College of Information Technology held a scientific workshop entitled “Mechanisms for Verifying Scientific Journals: Skills for Detecting Academic Fraud.” The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Suad Abdul-Ilah Abdul-Hussein, with the participation of a number of postgraduate students and researchers interested in academic publishing. The workshop aimed to equip researchers with essential skills for evaluating the credibility and reliability of scientific journals, as well as identifying predatory and fraudulent journals that may negatively affect the quality and integrity of scholarly publications. It also focused on enhancing researchers’ awareness of the importance of selecting reputable journals for publishing their scientific work. During the workshop, participants were introduced to systematic verification methods and practical tools that assist researchers in assessing the authenticity of academic journals before submitting their manuscripts. The session also addressed key indicators used to distinguish reputable journals from predatory or deceptive ones, in addition to presenting several international platforms and digital tools that support researchers in verifying journal legitimacy and maintaining high academic standards. This workshop reflects the College of Information Technology’s commitment to strengthening research capabilities among its students and academic community, promoting responsible and credible scientific publishing practices, and safeguarding the academic research process from misinformation while reinforcing internationally recognized standards of scholarly integrity.
