The College of Information Technology Promotes Environmental Sustainability Through Greening and Green Spaces Enhancement Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of its continuous efforts to establish a sustainable and attractive university environment, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon places increasing emphasis on afforestation initiatives and the development of green spaces, recognizing their vital role in enhancing the campus landscape and improving the overall quality of the educational environment. Afforestation represents a fundamental pillar in creating a healthy and balanced environment, contributing to air purification, climate moderation, and the provision of comfortable spaces that support students and faculty in achieving higher levels of focus and creativity within the campus. The Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Wesam Sameer Bhaya, closely supervises these initiatives in cooperation with the Administrative Affairs Division, ensuring the continuity and development of such efforts in alignment with the university’s vision for environmental sustainability. The college gardens regularly witness ongoing planting campaigns, including the cultivation of trees and seasonal plants, in addition to routine maintenance of irrigation systems, organization of planting beds, and tree pruning. These efforts collectively enhance the aesthetic appeal of the campus and contribute to a vibrant and dynamic environment. Beyond their visual value, these greening efforts reflect a strategic commitment to fostering a culture of environmental sustainability, encouraging students to preserve green spaces as a shared responsibility that reflects their awareness and sense of belonging to their academic institution. The College affirms that such initiatives contribute to presenting the University of Babylon in a progressive and civilized manner, while supporting its mission to prepare a generation that combines academic excellence with environmental awareness, in line with the principles of sustainable development.
