Software Department at the College of Information Technology Organizes a Workshop for Postgraduate Students on AI Tools Usage Policies in Scientific Research Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Software Department at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, continues its efforts to support the research pathway and enhance academic awareness among postgraduate students by organizing specialized scientific workshops that keep pace with recent developments in artificial intelligence and its applications in scientific research. In this context, the department organized a workshop entitled “Guidelines for the Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Scientific Research,” delivered by Dr. Hussein Ali Ismail, Postgraduate Studies Coordinator in the department, with the participation of a number of postgraduate students. The workshop aimed to clarify the adopted policies governing the use of artificial intelligence tools in scientific research, based on the regulations issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, ensuring the ethical and methodological use of these technologies in academic work. The session included a comprehensive overview of the importance of artificial intelligence in supporting the research process, in addition to outlining the objectives and significance of the policy, as well as clearly defining the permitted and prohibited uses of AI tools in scientific research. It also addressed the administrative and legal implications associated with policy violations, reinforcing researchers’ adherence to established academic standards. Furthermore, the workshop discussed the responsibilities of students, supervisors, and academic institutions in regulating the use of these tools, ensuring a balance between leveraging modern technologies and maintaining academic integrity. The workshop concluded with an explanation of the AI usage disclosure form, emphasizing its role as a key mechanism for ensuring transparency and credibility in scientific research. This workshop forms part of a series of academic activities organized by the Software Department aimed at developing postgraduate students’ research skills and promoting a culture of rigorous and responsible scientific inquiry, in alignment with contemporary technological advancements and academic standards.
