It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Department of Software at the College of Information Technology University of Babylon Continues the Implementation of the Joint Examination with Al Isra University for the Second Course Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon’s ongoing efforts to advance higher education systems and enhance academic assessment mechanisms in line with modern standards and within its strategic orientation toward strengthening academic integration and expanding collaboration with Iraqi universities the Department of Software continued the implementation of the joint examination by conducting the second course examination for the academic year 2025 2026 in cooperation with the Department of Information Technology at the College of Science Al Isra University. This step reflects the depth of institutional collaboration and underscores the college’s commitment to achieving high standards of academic quality and rigor. The examination was conducted in a well organized and disciplined environment characterized by accuracy and high level coordination where a joint committee of faculty members from both institutions directly supervised the examination process ensuring adherence to approved academic standards and maintaining the highest levels of transparency and fairness in evaluation. The implementation of the second course joint examination represents a continuation of a series of joint assessments aimed at reinforcing objective evaluation and accurately measuring students’ academic achievement through unified standards that contribute to improving educational outcomes and aligning with contemporary higher education practices. This collaboration highlights the College of Information Technology’s dedication to broadening academic partnerships and exchanging expertise with Iraqi universities in a manner that enhances the quality of education elevates student performance and reflects its ongoing commitment to adopting best academic practices
