In alignment with the directives of the Council of Ministers to implement the National Security Strategy (Iraq First 2025–2030), the College of Information Technology organized a scientific seminar titled “Digital Transformation as a Tool to Enhance Local Industry and Economic Growth.” The seminar was grounded in a central premise that economic sovereignty is no longer achieved solely through traditional resources, but rather through the acquisition of digital knowledge, the protection of data, and the development of smart industries capable of competing with imports and generating high-quality employment opportunities that reinforce economic stability as a key pillar of national security.
The seminar highlighted the National Security Strategy as a comprehensive framework aimed at strengthening state sovereignty and stability, emphasizing that national security is no longer confined to military dimensions but now encompasses economic, technological, and food security in light of rapid global transformations.
It further addressed Iraq’s transition toward a digital economy as an alternative to a rent-based economic model, presenting key indicators of this shift, including the adoption of electronic payment systems and the automation of customs processes, exemplified by the ASYCUDA system. These advancements position Iraq within the global technological landscape and positively impact individuals’ economic conditions by creating high-quality job opportunities.
The seminar also underscored that digital transformation contributes to establishing an integrated national database that supports sound economic decision-making and addresses current challenges beyond reliance on traditional resources. Moreover, it enables sustainable financial flows that support the national budget and ensure a more stable and diversified economic future for coming generations.
This seminar reflects the College of Information Technology’s commitment to supporting national directions and promoting awareness of digital transformation as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and building a modern knowledge-based economy.
