Assistant Professor Dr. Sura Zaki Naji, Head of the Software Department at the College of Information Technology – University of Babylon, participated in a Master s thesis defense held at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Department of Computer Science, Tikrit University, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
The thesis, entitled:
“A New Combination Between FDOSM and the Opinion Weight Criteria Method (OWCM)”
was presented by Hind Alaa Abdul Kareem under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Maher Saleh.
The abstract of the thesis highlighted the following:
The Fuzzy Decision by Opinion Score Method (FDOSM) is one of the most recent techniques applied in the field of Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). It is designed to select the best alternative from a set of available options and has addressed many shortcomings found in earlier methods. However, one of the main challenges FDOSM faces is the issue of implicit weighting, which necessitates a mechanism for deriving weights that accurately reflect expert evaluations.
This study proposes a novel integration of the Opinion Weight Criteria Method (OWCM) with FDOSM. The OWCM is employed to extract the weights of criteria, which are then combined with FDOSM to achieve more precise ranking of alternatives. The proposed approach was applied to a case study involving an LTE-A network, using four criteria and nine alternatives. The findings demonstrated that incorporating explicitly derived weights leads to more accurate and effective decision support outcomes.
The discussion committee was composed of:
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Aktham Ahmed – Tikrit University / College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Chair
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Sura Zaki Naji – University of Babylon / College of Information Technology – Member
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Zaidon Tareq Abdulwahab – Tikrit University / College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Member
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Maher Saleh – Tikrit University / College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Member and Supervisor
The defense session was attended by a number of faculty members and postgraduate students, who praised the scientific rigor of the thesis and the innovative approach introduced by the researcher.
