The College of Information Technology at the University of Babel made a remarkable impact during its participation in the 2nd Iraqi Digital Space Forum, held under the theme (Public Digital Infrastructure). The forum was organized by the National Cybersecurity Center in collaboration with the National Security Advisory, on the grounds of Dijla Village, and witnessed a broad participation from universities across Iraq, totaling 200 research papers and theses. Out of these, ten studies were selected for poster presentations, with four contributions representing the College of Information Technology, reflecting the institution’s commitment to scientific innovation and academic excellence.
The college also distinguished itself in oral presentations, where only five research works were selected for live presentation. Among the winners were two researchers from the Department of Software, Dr. Suzan Mohammed Ali Solah, supervised by Dr. Ahmed Mahdi Mohammed Saeed, and Dr.Raed Abdul Redha Sheikhan, supervised by Dr. Tawfiq Abdul Khaleq Abbas. Their research demonstrated high levels of scientific innovation and the application of advanced technologies in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
Suzan’s thesis focused on detecting and protecting fake accounts on social networks using machine learning and blockchain technologies, presenting an innovative methodology to identify suspicious patterns and safeguard user accounts intelligently and securely. Raed’s thesis centered on generating deepfake images using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and geometric image features, aiming to develop precise methods for generating and detecting artificial visual content, opening new avenues in AI applications and cybersecurity.
Additional contributions from the College included the work of Rana Abbas Reda Rajab from the Department of Information Networks, supervised by Dr. Al-Harith Abdul Karim Abdullah, which addressed enhancing the security of medical healthcare files using advanced storage systems and blockchain technology. Furthermore, Yaseen Khudair Abbas from the Department of Software, supervised by Dr. Ahmed Habib Al-Azawi, presented research on classifying movies by genre and age-appropriateness based on movie scripts. Each presentation lasted three minutes, offering attendees an opportunity to explore cutting-edge ideas and innovative solutions.
The forum attracted extensive participation from representatives of governmental institutions, the private sector, academic institutions, and international organizations, addressing key topics such as digital identity, digital governance, digital payments, and data integration, all essential for strengthening national digital infrastructure and establishing a comprehensive digital space.
The recognition of the theses by Suzan Mohammed Ali Solah and Raed Abdul Redha Sheikhan among the top research contributions underscores the quality of scientific research at the College of Information Technology and affirms the college’s active role in fostering innovation and enabling students and faculty members to contribute effectively to national and international scientific progress.
