In a vivid embodiment of its ambitious strategic vision to prepare highly specialized technical cadres capable of confronting rapidly evolving cyber threats, and to reinforce its position as a leading academic environment in adopting modern applied learning approaches, the Cybersecurity Department at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, organized a CTF (Capture The Flag) competition. This distinguished scientific event reflected the department’s philosophy of practice-based learning and real-world experimentation, providing a professional technical environment that simulates authentic cybersecurity scenarios. Through this initiative, students were encouraged to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical, challenge-driven contexts that foster analytical thinking, problem-solving, and exploration, ultimately enhancing their readiness for the demands of the technological labor market.

This initiative reaffirms the department’s commitment to developing students’ skills and refining their practical competencies in cybersecurity fields by immersing them in realistic experiences that simulate cyber threat environments. Such efforts aim to equip students with the necessary tools for protection, analysis, and defense against cyberattacks, aligning with the department’s mission to build a knowledgeable and capable generation of cybersecurity professionals.

The competition featured a diverse range of technical challenges across advanced domains, including ethical hacking, digital forensics, network security, reverse engineering, cryptography, and vulnerability analysis. These challenges provided participants with a valuable opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge within a competitive setting that closely mirrors real-world applications, thereby highlighting their capabilities and strengthening their confidence.

The event demonstrated a high level of organization and professionalism, thanks to the significant efforts of the organizing committee, whose role was instrumental in delivering the competition at a distinguished standard befitting the college and the department.

The department also commends the outstanding efforts of the dedicated student Hussein Ali Saad, who played a vital role in the preparation and organization of the event, exemplifying responsibility, creativity, and teamwork.
The competition was attended by a number of distinguished guests whose presence added meaningful support and value to the event, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in motivating students and encouraging excellence in modern technological fields.
Through this initiative, the Cybersecurity Department affirms that CTF competitions go beyond mere contests; they represent advanced academic platforms for preparing a generation equipped with high-level analytical and technical skills, capable of contributing effectively to strengthening cybersecurity and keeping pace with future technological advancements.
