It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

A Step Toward Future Specializations: Ministerial Committee Visits the College to Review the Establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Technology Department Duhaa Fadill Abbas Reflecting the ambitious future-oriented vision of the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon and its continuous pursuit of keeping pace with rapid technological transformations and emerging specializations, the College continues its dedicated efforts to develop its academic environment and introduce high-quality academic programs that meet the demands of the digital revolution and artificial intelligence era. As part of its mission to prepare highly qualified graduates capable of leading technological advancement and supporting development and labor market needs, the College has worked extensively to provide all academic, administrative, and technical requirements necessary for the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Technology Department. This specialization is regarded as one of the fastest-growing fields worldwide, and the College seeks through it to strengthen its academic standing while creating new opportunities for students in advanced technology and digital innovation. Within this framework, the College welcomed a ministerial committee tasked with reviewing the requirements for establishing the Artificial Intelligence Technology Department. The committee conducted a comprehensive field visit that included classrooms, scientific laboratories, administrative offices, and various educational facilities to assess the available capabilities and the College’s readiness to launch the new department in accordance with approved academic standards. The committee also reviewed the academic plans and curricula prepared for the proposed department, which have been designed to keep pace with the rapid global developments in artificial intelligence. In addition, the committee examined the mechanisms established to provide an educational and research environment capable of preparing students with advanced knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence and its diverse applications. The visit included an inspection of classrooms, specialized laboratories, administrative offices, and the supporting infrastructure of the educational process. The committee commended the level of preparation and readiness achieved by the College and praised the facilities and resources provided, which reflect a clear and serious commitment to establishing the department according to recognized academic standards. Members of the committee expressed their positive impressions regarding the efforts undertaken by the College administration, academic departments, and specialized committees. They emphasized that the level of preparedness they observed reflects the College’s determination to establish a distinguished department capable of meeting future demands and supplying the labor market with highly qualified specialists in one of the world’s most rapidly expanding and influential technological fields. The committee also praised the considerable work invested in preparing the academic and scientific environment, noting that the organization and readiness demonstrated during the visit reflect a well-defined institutional vision aimed at developing modern academic programs that align with global advancements in artificial intelligence. These efforts are part of the College of Information Technology’s strategy to strengthen its academic position and expand its specialized academic programs. Such initiatives contribute to supplying society and the labor market with graduates who possess the expertise and competencies required in modern technological fields, particularly artificial intelligence and its advanced applications, in line with the University of Babylon’s vision of supporting innovation, digital transformation, and the development of future-oriented specializations.
