It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

A Distinguished Research Publication on Inverse Shadowing Characteristics in G-Groups by Faculty Members from the University of Babylon Duhaa Fadill Abbas In alignment with the strategic vision of the Software Department at the College of Information Technology to promote research leadership and scientific innovation, and in keeping with global advancements in the fields of dynamical systems and data security, Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Kadhim Zgair, a faculty member in the Software Department, in collaboration with Assistant Professor Dr. Mai Abdulkhaleq Al-Yaseen from the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Babylon, and Dr. Raad Saffah Aboud, has successfully published a high-impact scientific paper entitled: “Exploring Inverse Shadowing Characteristics within G-Groups Based on General Sequence Behaviors” This research was published in the Journal of Discrete Mathematical Sciences and Cryptography, issued by the renowned international publisher TARU PUBLICATIONS. The journal is indexed in the first quartile (Q1) in the Scopus database and the second quartile (Q2) in Clarivate Analytics, reflecting the scientific prestige and high quality of the published research in terms of originality, methodology, and findings. This study falls within the category of foundational research that contributes to enhancing digital sustainability by developing mathematical models for analyzing the stability of dynamical systems. It presents potential applications in key areas such as data security, cyber modeling, and mathematical cryptography. As such, the research represents a valuable scientific contribution that supports the development of secure digital infrastructure and deepens the understanding of complex systems — aligning closely with the digital and knowledge-focused objectives of sustainable development. ??
