Cybersecurity Faculty Member Publishes Research in a Global Journal on Enhancing Video Compression Algorithms through Advanced Image Processing Techniques Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of the ongoing scientific endeavors of the Cybersecurity Department at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, and its continuous pursuit to strengthen its research standing in international academic rankings, Lecturer Noha Kareem Hameed Rasheed, a faculty member in the Cybersecurity Department, has achieved a significant scholarly milestone through the publication of a joint research paper entitled: "Enhancing Multi-Scale Retinex Algorithm Using H.265/HEVC for Improved Video Compression" The paper was published in the Journal of Internet Services and Information Security, a reputable journal indexed in Scopus (Q2) and published by the renowned academic publisher Elsevier, with a CiteScore of 5.4. This research collaboration also included Lecturer Mayson Khazaal Abbas Ma’rouf and Lecturer Dalia Abdulrahim Mukhayef Hassan from the College of Basic Education, reflecting a fruitful interdisciplinary partnership between the two colleges. The study introduces an innovative scientific approach that integrates the Multi-Scale Retinex (MSR) algorithm—designed to simulate the human visual system’s perception of color and detail—with the High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard H.265. The proposed method processes each video frame using MSR prior to compression, leading to a 16% improvement in storage efficiency relative to visual quality, and a 50% reduction in bit rate, all while preserving perceptual image fidelity. The significance of this research lies in its advanced applications across various fields such as computer vision, medical imaging, image processing, and intelligent surveillance systems. It provides an efficient solution for compressing visual data without compromising image quality—an essential requirement for digital environments with constrained resources. In recognition of this scientific achievement, the research team received a letter of appreciation from the President of the University of Babylon, honoring their outstanding contributions and their role in elevating the university’s academic and research reputation on the global stage. ??
