As part of the University of Babylon’s ongoing efforts to promote the values of social peace and to reject all forms of extremism, the College of Information Technology hosted the Babylon International Conference on Combating Ideological Extremism and Terrorism. The event was held on April 14, 2025, under the theme “Dialogue Towards Sustainable Peace”, and was attended by representatives from the University of Babylon, Al-Mustaqbal University, and the University of Al-Hilla.

The conference was marked by the distinguished presence of Prof. Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon, along with the university’s Vice Presidents for Administrative and Scientific Affairs, the Dean of the College of Information Technology and his administrative assistant, in addition to a broad audience of academics, researchers, and postgraduate students.

This year’s edition of the conference focused on multiple intellectual and scientific dimensions related to combating extremism, organized into three thematic tracks:

Legal Track
Sports Track
Environmental Track

Each track highlighted the critical role of its respective domain in contributing to the construction of peaceful and resilient societies. The legal track addressed legislative frameworks for countering extremist ideologies within the bounds of justice and the rule of law. The sports track emphasized the role of sports in engaging youth and channeling their energy toward creativity, teamwork, and positive competition, as opposed to isolation and radicalization. Meanwhile, the environmental track explored the correlation between ecological stability and societal peace, shedding light on how environmental policies can be leveraged as strategic tools for peacebuilding and sustainable development.

Specialized scientific committees were assigned to each track to review and discuss the submitted research papers. These committees managed intellectually rich and diverse academic sessions, contributing to the conference’s comprehensive nature and underscoring the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing intellectual and social challenges.

The organization of the conference was led by a dedicated team from the College of Information Technology, which included:

Legal Advisor: Hasan Hadi Al-Mamouri
Assistant Lecturer: Ali Hussein Mahdi
Assistant Engineer: Intidhar Fadel Obeid
Assistant Programmer: Safaa Sameer Mohammed
Assistant Engineer: Duhaa Fadill Abbas

The attendees praised the conference’s high level of organization and the quality of the discussions and research presentations, emphasizing the importance of sustaining such academic initiatives that contribute to the intellectual and cultural cohesion of society and promote long-term peace.
