It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The Software Department Continues Academic Collaboration with Al-Israa University Through a Joint Examination for the Second Subject Duhaa Fadel Abbas As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen academic cooperation and promote the exchange of expertise between Iraqi universities, the Software Department at the College of Information Technology, University of Babylon, conducted a joint examination for the second subject in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology, College of Science – Al-Israa University. The examination was held under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Wissam Sameer Bahei, and with the close follow-up of the Head of the Software Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sura Zaki Naji, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a fair, transparent, and disciplined examination environment that upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and quality. A joint committee composed of faculty members from both institutions oversaw the examination process, ensuring its smooth execution and adherence to the unified evaluation criteria agreed upon by both departments. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to enhancing the academic experience and reinforcing the culture of standardized and equitable assessment. This joint examination stands as a practical model for implementing academic cooperation agreements and demonstrates the college’s dedication to building robust academic partnerships. Such initiatives facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices, contribute to the development of educational programs, and support the sustainable advancement of higher education in Iraq. The College of Information Technology reaffirms its commitment to fostering strategic academic alliances and supporting the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research s vision of a modern, integrated, and forward-looking academic environment.
