It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Scientific Workshop at the College of Information Technology Highlights Global Programming Platforms as Gateways to Sustainable Employment Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Cybersecurity Department at the College of Information Technology organized a specialized workshop titled "Global Programming Platforms: Pathways to Sustainable Employment", delivered by Dr. Safa Redha Jasim and Dr. Suad Safaa Mahdi. The event drew the participation of students . The workshop addressed the rapid advancements in the fields of programming and technology, emphasizing how these developments have led to the emergence of global platforms that not only offer educational resources but have evolved into key engines for generating sustainable job opportunities for programmers and developers worldwide. The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce participants to internationally recognized platforms such as GitHub, Stack Overflow, Toptal, Freelancer, and Upwork, outlining their significant role in empowering developers to work remotely, enhance their technical competencies, and secure stable income through a diverse range of short- and long-term projects. The session also highlighted the practical importance of these platforms in connecting skilled professionals with international markets, promoting the exchange of knowledge, and facilitating the development of innovative solutions within the global digital economy. In addition, the workshop explored the main challenges associated with working on these platforms, including the high level of competition and disparities in pricing across different regions. The speakers emphasized the importance of maintaining high-quality performance and building a strong professional portfolio to attract potential employers and clients. The workshop concluded with key recommendations encouraging students to strategically leverage these platforms as a means to expand their career horizons, adapt to the evolving demands of the global job market, and achieve long-term professional growth and financial stability.
