The College of Information Technology Offers a Specialized Course in Photoshop Design Fundamentals Duhaa Fadill Abbas As part of its ongoing community engagement efforts and in continuation of the collaborative training program launched for students from Al-Ain Foundation for Social Care, the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon organized a two-day intensive training course entitled “Photoshop Design Fundamentals”. The course was held under the supervision of the Continuing Education Unit and in coordination with the academic departments of the college, aiming to introduce participants to the essential principles and practical techniques of digital design using Adobe Photoshop. Delivered by specialists Mr. Shuker Hamed Shaker and Mr. Yasser Saad Joudi, the course provided a foundational understanding of digital workspace configuration, project setup, and resolution scaling. Participants were introduced to the core Photoshop interface, including the most commonly used tools and their functions within real-world design scenarios. Special emphasis was placed on mastering selection techniques—ranging from basic rectangular and elliptical selections to more precise lasso and magic wand methods—enabling participants to isolate and manipulate image elements with accuracy. The course also included a guided hands-on project where students combined two separate images into a cohesive visual composition. This exercise illustrated key concepts such as layer management, blending modes, and adjustment layers, offering practical insight into the creative potential of digital editing. Through this experiential approach, students developed a better grasp of image manipulation and were encouraged to explore their own visual storytelling skills. The training witnessed enthusiastic participation and interaction from the students, many of whom expressed a strong interest in further exploring graphic design as a field. The program succeeded not only in building technical proficiency but also in fostering creativity and digital confidence among the participants. The College of Information Technology reaffirms its dedication to serving society by supporting educational initiatives that empower youth with modern digital competencies. This course reflects the college’s broader mission to bridge academic knowledge with community development, and to create impactful learning experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom settings.
