It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

Department of Software Engineering Holds Meeting to Organize the Allocation of Theoretical and Practical Courses for the 2025–2026 Academic Year Duhaa Fadill Abbas The Department of Software Engineering at the College of Information Technology convened a meeting chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Sura Zaki Al-Rashid, with the attendance of Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Kazem, the undergraduate program coordinator, to discuss the allocation of theoretical and practical courses in preparation for the commencement of the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. The meeting brought together most of the department’s faculty members and teaching assistants. Discussions centered around devising a balanced distribution of the curriculum that would maximize student benefit, with a focus on enhancing the quality of academic performance and fostering a learning environment that aligns with the evolving demands of the job market. Dr. Sura Zaki Al-Rashid expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the tireless efforts of the faculty members, commending their dedication to delivering the best possible education to students and their ongoing commitment to advancing the department’s academic standards. For his part, Dr. Haider Kazem emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and integration between theoretical and practical components in the educational process. He also addressed key issues and challenges related to the Bologna Process and the SIS system, underscoring the pivotal role each faculty member plays in elevating the department’s performance and achieving its academic goals. This meeting reflects the spirit of teamwork and continuous improvement within the Department of Software Engineering.
